Void

Something happens when I go underwater. It’s as if the surface acts as a veil under which my thoughts have a lot more resonance, a deeper presence, as if the water osmoses them out of my skull, projects and energizes them. They transform from feeble electrical signals firing erratically in my brain to a thick, viscous plasma that my whole being swims in. In that sense, going underwater has always been like entering an inner space for me, a private space of reflection and thought, and that’s the space that I wanted to represent in this series - “the inner void”. That place in the dark where our deepest secrets live and every feeling begins. Our ultimate hiding place.

It was from this place that I wanted to conduct an inquiry about femininity. First about my relationship to women and the Divine Feminine as a heterosexual male in an age where toxic masculinity has been duly castigated; and later, also as a study of my own feminine-masculine polarity and what relating to the feminine within me means in my development as a person in search for more wholeness.

With Frances and Gabrielle, separately,  we explored the idea of the unfurling of the feminine; how the feminine activates and magnetizes in order to host and hold the masculine, and how the masculines must match that magnetism in reverence.
